movie reveiw edward scirrorhands

The film Edward Scissorhands wars quiets hyper realistic in its deliverance of sub genres and story narrative. From the first glance as we look into the Peaceful closed suburb We see that it is a clear reference to 1950 American dream where everything was bright colourful, copy and paste housing with at least a nuclear family placed in almost every single home from what is covered in the suburb’s cast. From looking at the stars cast people living in the suburb BCA form of generic style going about them pastel colours hairstyles I'm looks ranging around what was considered fashionable during the 1950s but find looking at one of the particular shorts , the broad shot We are greeted with the clash of different styles ranging from the simple American 1950s dream that copy and paste in style Nothing out of the ordinary everything in its place, with flashing with the gothic architecture and surroundings that are positioned on the Hill isolated from everything else.
As peggoes into the Closed mansion on the Hill she greeted with quite a stunning and unique garden this can be taken as metaphor understanding of how from the movie Edward is locked out from his are statics to what is on the inside which is more childlike and well full of wonder. As Peg entered the mansion in humorous fashion will greeted with Quite a Baron area but on inspection, we can say that's the director has taken inspiration from both belle et la bete and DR Caligari. When we come across Edward for the first time, we see him hidden in the dark which implies something is off about him something that is to be feared, which can also be amplified By the lighting which is the greyer turning it quite grainy which comes be related to the old horror films that we used to know. The old horror aspect and gothic style we can see Clash as Edward and peg Return to the suburb with people wearing pastel plain clothing( warm colours); as was Edward and peg enter The street that she lives on will you see a lot of the female cast notice This new arrival Pulling up near house after the gossip that was going around about the strange anomaly that has arrived to stay at pegs home. By Looking how Most of the citizens office suburb quickly flock to This strange anomaly wanting to know where did you come from what does he do And all that, find this flocking this can be taken as form of conformity no in the 4 cents start in the introduce sense when Edward was given clothing buy peg we can see start his whole attitude has changed he was dying to be a bit more open awards the folks and thought of it in start to become part of this closed world that they have set up.
Even though this society that were introduced to that was mainly based around the 1950 American dream There a fair few characters that were given of course having a facade to one towards them, such as Joyce for instance when looking at her character we are given to somebody who is out there for new expenses in a lot of different ways is it likely but when around companies like friends or loved ones she would put this fake act on that she is defenceless woman you should help me not them. This fact is even farther proved when in the salons scene She comes on to Edward with strong intent and being confused and different mindset (more childlike ) There was a slight accident has occurred in that scene which later on she twisted the truth make it seem but she is the victim of the situation that she requires justice again someone who wronged her even though that person what's the victim of her.
Kim is another one of the characters that I've mentioned that has a façade towards her personality, This is highlighted on how when she came back in to the suburb she was dressed in Unorthodox clothing that you wouldn't see girls her age in the suburbs wearing, but changed back into the clothes that was seen by many females in the area as normal which can be taken add a form of façade Conformity That Edward has also faced Upon entering the suburb. Towards the end of the movie we see her in a white dress for a Christmas celebration how old is dressed in festive colours she was in pure white symbolising a form of non-conformity towards suburb that she left in the closed world that a lot of people new and abided by. The dress code also symbolise the innocence and understanding that she felt towards Edward when did town only saw the monstrous figure start the director made him out to be.
Then there is peg When introduced choose blank white pastel colours she meekness conformed lifestyle that she lived by, Along most of the other female cast in the film. Start as movie progressed, we saw her clothes started to Brighten in colour switch symbolised of form growth in her personality noticed by the community and made relevant among her peers. Vibrant colours could also symbolise opening up in her personality before she was still occurring woman but she kept herself but as the movie progressed her social life grew, she socialise more than when we first saw her at the start of the movie Where it seems start she What is more than outcast then part of the social circle that the suburb has set up among the females .

to conclude the film cast and setting has constant binary oposites that have crucial meaning towards most of the character that dabue to the film, displaying not only the inner minds in the respective home but through there clothing that they would wear through the movie, as they displayed the social class of the 1950's american dream veruses the harsh outcast of the gothic setting and the character.

  1. Hi Coyle,

You have some good underlying ideas here, but I would advise you to get someone to proofread before you post, as it is quite hard to understand what you are saying in some places...

    Some general pointers -
You are asked to include images and quotes to support your own discussion, which you seem to have forgotten to do this time round? Images would have been particularly useful here, when you were describing the colourful suburbs, for example.
If you are mentioning other films, you need to include the date and maybe a bit of context - don't assume that your reader knows anything about the films. So, for example, in what way was 'Calligari' influencial?
Likewise, if you are introducing an idea such as 'The American Dream', you need to give your reader some background - this is where a supporting quote might have been useful.
You only need capital letters at the start of a sentence and for proper names.

  2. Hi Coyle,

Just to follow-up on Jackie's point - please send me any of your written work (as you have done with your Alien film review and the Alien essay) and I will proofread it for you. However, as we discussed with Phil, you need to work on your project management skills in the new term, to ensure that your work is done promptly and therefore time can be built in to proofread it before it goes live on your blog. Many thanks.

Well done for all you have achieved this term!
