  1. Hi Coyle, can you rename this ' Fantastic Voyage OGR' please, so that Phil can spot it...

Hey Coyle - okay - first things first (and I'm going to sound like a parrot, I know) - but the golden rule of this project is that it is 'not for you', but for 'other people' - so everything you present and design and communicate needs to be to the benefit of those 13-16 year olds who are looking to you to teach them something. I think it's completely possible to abstract life-forms etc but you need to ensure that whatever you do in this respect doesn't confuse or over-whelm the actual content. You've got a lot of elaborate monsters in your influence map... but also, please remember that you have to model, texture, animate and render everything within the scope of the project, so 'design smart' in this sense.

I think you need to ask yourself at the earliest stage all the boring questions: who is the teacher in your film? Is there a voice-over, or is there text on the screen, and if so how is it integrated creatively; how will your audience be initiated into your 'abstract language' - how will they know you're showing them the principle of survival of the fittest? I think you need to have some pretty strict rules firmly in place before you take things too far, so you don't end up creating something the client will reject - what does the client want from you and your designs? This is the real test, Coyle - what does everyone else need from your imagination and your creativity?
