movie review three act structure - matrix

For my three acts structure film review, I will be looking at the first matrix movie.
The Majors movie is one of the biggest movies that use the structure as compared to non-linear movies like “eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind” which uses a non-linear format for it storytelling, matrix uses a three act structure on which firstly in act one they’ll be set up to the story then in act two there will be rising tensions conflicts obstacles just general plot development up to big action that would lead into act three which would ultimately lead to a resolution and the end of the movie.

For act one we are first introduced to neo-who in this late 90s early 2000 looking New York works as a coder and also a businessman in a standardised cubicle job seen in very large business buildings, but this all changed when three men in black suits and shades called agent Smith came in and warned neo about his coding/hacking that he was doing which led to neo being bugged by the agents. The first step they takes in leaving this fantasy world is when he gets a call from Morpheus informing that his life is in danger and ultimately trying to escape the oncoming threat but this fails and as previously said he was bugged by the agent Smiths.

But later in the movie he would meet character known as Trinity which she would lead him to Morpheus and present him with the gateway into the second act of the film which was the red and the blue pills obviously seeing this film multiple times now he has taken the red pill which leading into the second act which takes him out of the matrix and into the real world, he wakes up from this major discovery that he was in a vat inside this large machinelike area but then once the machines found out he was awake he was disconnected from the system and expelled into the sewer systems on which Morpheus and his team were able to pick up in time and save a life.

It is at this point in the movie/act 2 that Morpheus and his team with lecture neo on what has happened to the world and what is the matrix and then also goes into a small training simulation on which he learned how to fight survival and all that but halfway through at two they are presented with a large obstacle after seeing the Oracle neo and the team were ambushed by police and the agent Smiths which led to a dramatic escape and ultimately Morpheus is capture.

Bar Morpheus the rest of the team escaped and was gonna go back to the real world but then another obstacle one of Morpheus’s team (Cypher) that betrayed him went back to the real world inside the ship and killed off two of the characters and rest proceeding to kill off the rest including Trinity and neo but after facing that Pacific obstacle known as Cypher and also facing off against the other obstacle that came along which were the machines that nearly killed everyone neo made the huge decision which were taken into his larger fight towards act three which was to save Morpheus. Both Neo and Trinity went back to the matrix in order to fight the Smiths to get Morpheus back safely which led to them going into a phone booth and Morpheus and Trinity leaving safely but neo in his showdown fight with an agent Smith. Ultimately in this fight neo perished but after realising this is all just a simulation and thanks to that plot armour “as the one” neo resurrected inside the matrix and proceeded to finish off the Smiths and escape from certain danger.

The movie itself ends with neo flying off somewhere inside the matrix and was left open-ended. The use of the three act structure in the film the matrix was interesting as it kept the audience in trade on what was going on and towards the end even though there were some bits that would be considered a little bit corny just for the sake of convenience and also for somewhat of a happy open ending it left the audience wanting more from that specific universe that we come to know as the matrix
