Premise-reflective statement

Premise for me has to be quite an interesting process for  the project, as I had many challenges throughout up until now which have tried me to a certain degree but the process itself has been quite enthralling to what I’ve been doing and what I’ve been discovering in terms of production of my own 3D animation short. Most of the major problems first occurred during the idea, the process when I was trying to find something solidified to settle on for the major process I tried thinking of simple but effective stuff but those ideas became a little bit too overcomplicated when initially trying to explain them, later down the line I settled on doing not characters or a story but to focus on the scene from a particular book mainly the “magician’s nephew” by C.S Lewis.

Once I conquered that particular hurdle the research aspect of just not only looking into the book again but to procure samples and images just to make a mood board of what house I might construct or what interiors I might make were a fairly bit annoying as the book itself was set in the 1900s London so architecture and the such were to be in accordance with the particular area which in hindsight now looking at this was a bit of a pain as obviously a lot of Western civilization during the era was constructed in the somewhat same style but I had to limit myself to a particular city style in order to find the right type of how shape I wanted to use and also what interior and items I would like to incorporate in said space. Overall the research aspect of the project was quite a pain and bit difficult as normally when it came to research aspect for other projects I would be merely told what broad aspects  I should look at and then go accordingly so to go out there and do my research findings pickets altogether and make something of it was new to what I was normally used to on this course.

After coming up with the initial ideas from mood boards/ images of London Victoria ascetics and contexts from the book it was then I proceeded to start designing and laying out some form of floor plan for what my house was, I decided to go with a particular house design that I was used to as I lived in that particular house setting so reconstructing it not only as to the drawing but then later on my was no more than slight hindrance obviously the whole construction process was quite fun as this was a new territory because most of them my art was character designs way back when and also we were mainly focusing on things like jetpack Jones so majority of the attention was focused around Design to do sets much like the one I produced for Pre-Vis was quite interesting as compared to most of the people in the course you were doing a story along with characters making the set on top of that I was focusing more joyously on the set and those minute little details which I found interesting and experimenting with where I can go with the camera particularly how I wanted to display the street in the animation.

The construction process of the set was somewhat interesting as previously stated going into every small aspects and detail left for a very interesting outcome, obviously with the construction of the said house in a rough aspect for the freely pre-visualization there were some parts like the stairs for instance where making said stairs were as a chore more than anything else as it was constantly making singular slabs going up and up and up and up so later down the line when I come to refine this particular house I would like to hopefully refine the whole stair making process so it is less of a pain compared to producing it in rough detail. Another thing was the textures or possible colouring choices for the house’s interior as looking at the new boards Victorian colourings were quite competitive the bright colours that we have today so choosing my colours was something of a challenge to do as I wanted to keep it as close as possible to accuracy in a Victorian home but also I would add my own slight flare to it, that’s when I looked into the books original illustrator Pauline Baynes who did the illustrations for the Narnia books using things like watercolour on top of the find pen markings. It was quite interesting to not only experiment with constructing a house but to then figure out how it was all  going to look image -wise I then tried to replicate it in click studio arts using water brush tools to add a form of depth to these particular samples which again was quite joyful as this is where my elements began to shine little bit more as the 3D aspect was a lot more challenging to the aspect here presented me with an opportunity to shine in terms of having quite good experiences with colouring inside digital illustrations. The wallpaper though I feel I could have done a little bit better as I don’t know if personally, it fits with everything but to mention what I said earlier in this particular paragraph I wanted to see if I could have my own flare to it so to have a house with a form of unique normal wallpaper in the main structure than to have something a lot more outlandish upstairs I found quite interesting and I just proceeded to make something a lot more outlandish as something a lot more alien compared to the rest of the Victorian architecture/interior.

Overall I think this particular aspect of the project was interesting as it was trying areas on which previously I was a lot more reluctant to go for, going forward I hope to start to push myself even further by trying to make a house even more detailed then it is in the previsualization. There are some areas in which I like to improve on in terms of hindsight on looking at the presentation and everything I produced prior to it, such as 3D modeling of the building even though I was able to make the 3D building that we see in the previsualization with simple slabs continuously stacked on each other things like the stairs or later down the line items like a lounge chair or couch or a coffee table there are a lot of things which I feel that I need to pick up on as when this animation next comes to public view it would be in a far greater deal then what is now. Another aspect would be the textures that I sampled somewhat lightly in this particular segment moving forward I would like to see about making them a lot more detail about the same time a lot more accurate in terms of colour that they used in the book, but at the same time I would also like to explore modernizing the colour texture is slightly so it would feel like I put my own flare on the particular style of said buildings and items. Personally, I can’t wait to see what I go into next down the line for this project initially it has been a bit of a bumpy road, to begin with but I’m starting to really enjoy the exploration of these different avenues that I haven’t seen or used that much before.
